First Data From Solar Obiter's Energetic Particle Detector (EPD)
Abstract
Solar Orbiter was launched on Febrauary 10, 2020 and its Energetic Particle Detector (EPD) suite started returning data on February 29, 2020. The four EPD sensors STEP, EPT, SIS, and HET measure suprathermal and energetic particles between a few keV and ~ 1 GeV/nuc. The Sun is currently exiting its deep and prolonged activity minimum, and first particle events have been measured by EPD in the inner heliosphere. We will present first data from the EPD instrument. EPD and the European Space Agency (ESA) embrace an open data policy and thus a substantial part of the reported data will already be available to the scientific community. Therefore, this talk will also explain how to access and use EPD data.
