Determining Jovian electron times
Abstract
Utilizing Jovian electrons as test-particles, we investigate charged particle transport via a stochastic differential equation (SDE) modelling approach. Jovian electrons are an ideal test-particle population for this task as their decentral source causes synodic periodical changes in intensities due to the changing magnetic connection. With the help of in-situ observations at 1 AU for the two cases of good and bad magnetic connections to the Jovian source, we establish an optimal setup for the parameters of Parker's transport equation. Applying this groundwork we propose a new approach to calculate residence times being consistent with the calculated differential intensities utilizing our recently improved Jovian source spectrum. We present the dependencies of this approach as well as a method to validate our results via spacecraft data.
