China's CO2 emission trends 2000-2020
Abstract
China is now the largest CO2 emitter in the world and plays the key role in global climate change mitigation. After the rapid growth of emissions in the past decade, China's emissions have declined since 2014 but rebounded in 2017, according to our latest emission accounting results. However, due to the lag of energy statistics data for more than two years, most CO2 emission databases only provide China's CO2 emission estimates until 2017. Here we proposed an approach to obtain fast estimates of China's CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion and cement process until 2019. By combining the daily emission data in 2020 from the Carbon Monitor project (https://carbonmonitor.org), a near-real time dataset of daily CO2 emission estimates by sectors, we are going to present the China's recent CO2 emission trends during 2000-2020.
