Protoplanetary disks in close binaries
Abstract
Hydrodynamical simulations of disks inside close binaries are performed for a wide range of parameters. Their influence on the disk's dynamics, especially the disk's eccentricity, is studied. The planetesimal accretion phase is very sensitive to the disks eccentricity, which makes planet formation difficult inside close binaries. The simulations have shown a wide range of disk eccentricities, thus additional work is required to reasonably conclude on the possibility of in-situ planet formation in a binary like Gamma Cephei.
