Analysis of numerical methods suitable for 1D simulation of thermosyphons
Abstract
This paper deals with the 1D transient model of a natural convection loop with a non-isothermal compressible viscous fluid. The simplified concept of the model is presented and two different numerical methods are compared - the explicit Lax-Wendroff method [2] and the implicit method developed by Králik et al. [1]. The Euler concept is used to a computation of mass flow and pressure and the Lagrange concept is applied to a calculation of temperature. The stability and the computational time of the explicit and the implicit method were investigated. The results show that the implicit scheme has significantly lower requirements on the hardware equipment than the explicit one. It was found that the implicit scheme is stable, faster and suitable for this type of simulations.
