Modeling of mechanical behavior of double-phase precipitates in 2024 aluminum alloy
Abstract
Cellular Automata (CA) method is widely applied for modeling of different phenomena in materials science. In this work, the authors used the method of Digital Material Representation (DMR) for creating a two-dimensional automaton displaying the real microstructure of aged aluminum alloy. The developed algorithm takes the DMR as an input geometry for the mechanical analysis. It simulates the behavior of the aluminum alloy containing double-phase precipitates when it is subjected to uniaxial loading. The purpose of the proposed simulation method is increasing the state of knowledge about the phenomenon of precipitate hardening in aluminum alloys.
