Enhancements to the GNSS Real-Time System at CDDIS
Abstract
The Crustal Dynamics Data Information System (CDDIS) Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol (NTRIP) caster operated by the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center now broadcasts over 500 GNSS data and 37 products streams relayed in real-time from over a dozen global NTRIP casters operating in 10 different countries. These real-time data include multi-GNSS pseudo-range and carrier phase observations, high-accuracy orbit and clock corrections, and help advance Earth and space science applications, such as those in precise point positioning, time synchronization, disaster monitoring, and space weather. The CDDIS is dedicated to continuous caster improvements and performance monitoring to provide reliable data and product streaming with help-desk supported accessibility to the global community. In support of the International GNSS Service (IGS) Real-Time Service (RTS) Working Group (IGS-RTWG), the CDDIS has been making enhancements to its caster including extensive testing and upgrades to the underlying hardware and software, converting mountpoint identifiers to RINEX V3 10-character names, and relaying a multitude of new data streams with goals to improve redundancy of stream availability across global data centers in the IGS RTS network and to offer IGS Central Bureau caster data streams after its eventual decommissioning. Ongoing work involving the CDDIS caster includes developing Python scripts to check and compare data content and consistency when converting RTCM real-time streams to high-rate RINEX V3 observation files, and collecting performance metrics, such as latencies and completeness. The CDDIS is also working to develop scripts to automatically notify the CDDIS team and end-users of stream status and outages, and scraping daily NTRIP user logs to collect information such as the number of stream connections per user, time connected to streams, volume of data transferred, number of unique users, and other useful statistics. Enhancements to the CDDIS caster, ongoing, and future work will be discussed in detail.
