Time series ALOS-2 SAR data analysis for rice crop monitoring in Asia.
Abstract
The Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) was successfully launched on 24th May 2014. The mission sensor of ALOS-2 is the Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar-2 called PALSAR-2 which is the state of the art L-band SAR system. In May 24th, 2019 after successful launch in 2014, ALOS-2 was celebrated 5 years nominal operation and in extended operation phase. However, until now, ALOS-2 has been contributed to a lot of emergency observations for natural disasters, not only in Japan but also in the world. Furthermore, based on the Basic Observation Scenario (BOS) of ALOS-2, 10m global map data and other mode data are routinely collected and archived, especially 100m ScanSAR mode data in tropical regions are collected 9 times per a year to develop forest cover change map in Tropical region routines under JAXA-JICA cooperation. By using time series of ALOS-2 ScanSAR data with machine learning technology, we develop rice crop map in low Mekong region under GEOGLAM Asia Rice Crop Team with CEOS and APRSAF activity .This paper describes the results of ALOS-2 operation in nominal operation phase with agriculture and forest product by ALOS-2.
