An Open source R Package for PurpleAir Sensor Data
Abstract
Low-cost air quality sensors are providing an increasingly dense network of high resolution air quality measurements throughout North America. This is particularly true of laser particle counters measuring PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 such as those produced by Purple Air. Much of the careful analysis of Purple Air PA-II data by academic institutions and government agencies is performed with in-house or proprietary tools that are not freely available to members of the general public. Mazama Science has partnered with the Air Quality Sensor Performance Evaluation Center at the South Coast Air Quality Management District to create an R package that provides a full suite of data download and analysis capabilities for Purple Air PA-II PM2.5 data. This presentation will review package capabilities and demonstrate a brief analysis of smoke impacts from wildfire activity.
