Effects of plastic deformations on the electrochemical and stress corrosion cracking behaviors of TC2 titanium alloy in simulated seawater
Abstract
In this work, the electrochemical and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviors of TC2 titanium alloy with varying plastic deformation in simulated seawater were investigated using electrochemical and slow strain rate test methods. Results show that the plastic deformation increases hardness and electrochemical activity and decreases elongation and reduction in area simultaneously. The increase in electrochemical activity enhances the anodic dissolution and the generation of hydrogen atoms, resulting in the increase of SCC susceptibility.
