Renewal of Metsähovi Geodetic Research Station
Abstract
Renewal of the Metsähovi Geodetic Research Station of the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI was started in 2012. The new SLR system is to be completed in 2018, as well installation of a VGOS compatible radio telescope. We also aim for a near-real time local ties between the major instruments. When completed in couple of years, Metsähovi will be one of the most versatile geodetic core station in the world, including tracking of all GNSS systems, SLR and VGOS telescopes, local tie monitoring between them, DORIS beacon, two superconducting gravimeters, absolute gravimeter, test field for GNSS antenna verification, a link to the official time and frequency of Finland and several environmental monitoring instruments. We describe the renewal of Metsähovi, its current status and future plans.
