Connections between Air Pollution and Climate in South Asia
Abstract
Fast-growing population and the concomitant demand for energy have resulted in rapid changes in atmospheric composition, including greenhouse gases and aerosols, in South Asia Asia over the last decades. This has wide-ranging implications for regional and global air pollution and climate. Additionally, changing climate affects pollution levels by altering various meteorological conditions that control the emission, chemical production, transport, and accumulation of pollutants. We will review recent modeling studies and present results from GFDL global chemistry-climate models to highlight the connections between air pollution and climate over South Asia.
