MJO Pacific Teleconnection : Interaction between MJO and QBO
Abstract
This study investigates interaction between Quasi Biennial Oscillation (QBO) and Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) for north Pacific region. MJO Pacific teleconnection patterns are modulated by QBO, which can alter mean state and variability of extra tropic and polar stratosphere as well as at the surface . MJO teleconnections for each phase of MJO are analyzed using composite analysis. It is found that geopotential height anomalies related to QBO phases persist over a season regardless of MJO phases. In phase 3 of MJO, QBOW strengthen the pacific teleconnection patterns, while QBOE tends weaker the pacific teleconnection patterns. In phase 7 of MJO pacific teleconnection pattern are strengthen by QBOE while weekend by QBOW.
