Brown Dwarfs from the Pan-STARRS 1 3pi Survey
Abstract
The Pan-STARRS 1 3pi survey is an excellent resource for searches for the lowest mass objects in the local solar neighborhood. The high sensitivity in the red bands, the repeated observations, and the precise astrometry enable searches for ultracool dwarfs across the spectral types from late M to late T. Our team has used a range of techniques to search for ultracool dwarfs: PS1 proper motions, PS1 parallaxes, PS1 combined with 2MASS and WISE, etc. One of our goals is to discover the brown dwarf exotica: the extremely young or old objects; those with low-metallicity or extremely dusty atmospheres. These exotica will provide the most leverage to constrain the stellar atmosphere and evolutionary models.
