Saturation of the Earth's magnetotail lobes with continuous strengthening of solar wind dynamic pressure
Abstract
There is known and actively discussed in the literature saturation effect of the electric field in the magnetosphere -ionosphere system observed with continuous enhancement of the solar wind (SW ) electric field. This effect was confirmed by observations. It retains scientific interest by providing additional information, in particular about the reconnection on the dayside magnetopause, creation of global dynamo and electric circuits in the system SW - magnetosphere -ionosphere. The obtained data also help to predict boundary values of disturbances of the magnetosphere and ionosphere for space weather forecasting. Here we consider a second similar effect - saturation of the magnetosphere at strengthening of the SW dynamic pressure. The result obtained was expected on the qualitative level (eg Lopez, 2009), and confirmed in a series of papers, which is a generalization of the present report. We also discuss preliminary findings from the analysis of these observations
