EPOS WG1: Seismological observatories and research infrastructure: A comprehensive example from four countries
Abstract
A newly installed EPOS working group (WG) 1 ensures a coordinate engagement of all involved seismological research infrastructures. The WG aims at a comprehensive overview of the seismological observational networks and research infrastructure within the Europe and its direct periphery. In this presentation we provide such a comprehensive overview of four countries: The Netherlands, Norway, Italy and the Czech Republic. The networks in those countries are not only widely different within the countries itself, serving different objectives and consequently differently governance and financial resources, but also between countries there are different policies. That this has also significant consequences on the organisation and availability of the data on a European scale has not always been clearly specified. Those different perspectives also have an impact on the directions of new investments, coordination with similar infrastructures in other countries and technical integration. All these aspects will be presented in this overview. We present this example of seismological observational and research infrastructures in four countries with the intention to facilitate the debate within EPOS on, how to integrate, what infrastructure on a European scale. Our overview should have impact on the data integration developments and access policies within EPOS.
