Aircraft-radar synergy in GPM-GV field campaigns
Abstract
This poster will describe ongoing collaborative research in combining and analyzing data from aircraft platforms and aircraft and ground based scanning radar and radiometer data from NASA Global Precipitation Mission-Ground Validation (GPM-GV) field campaigns. Results from analysis using the University of Illinois Matched Ground-based Radar-Aircraft Data (MGRAD) product and Satellite Simulator - Radar-Aircraft Data (SatSimRad) product will be presented. Results from the generation of "column" combined datasets from MGRAD in the LPVEx, MC3E, and GCPEx field campaigns will be presented and contrasted, with an eye on constraining key GPM radar and radiometer algorithm assumptions and generation of combined datasets for algorithm testing, evaluation, and error characterization.
