Determination by CFD of the IXV Aerodynamic Coefficients and RCS Yaw Efficiency
Abstract
The focus of this work is on evaluating the aerodynamic properties of the IXV vehicle in the continuous regime, by means of CFD simulations. Aerodynamic coefficients are computed for three points along the trajectory. Attention is given to the efficiency of the RCS system in controling the yaw moment and its effect on the vehicle aerodynamics. For each case, we study the thermal loads on the vehicle and their changes when the RCS is activated. We also analyse the impact of the turbulence model settings on the skin friction prediciton.
