Advances in NOAA Research Since the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami (Invited)
Abstract
Tsunami forecasting research at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory has been conducted at a torrid, yet productive, pace since the horrific December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. This intense period of research has resulted in the operational capability for NOAA to make real-time tsunami forecasts for specific coastal communities. The testing and validation steps required to create this operation forecasting capability along with a projection of future plans to sustain and enhance the NOAA real-time forecasting capability will be presented.
