Extreme Energy Cosmic Rays and Fundamental Physics

This is an overview on the physics behind cosmic rays and extreme energy cosmic rays. We discuss the acceleration mechanisms of cosmic rays, their possible astrophysical sources and the main open physical problems and difficulties. The top-down and bottom-up scenarii are contrasted.
