An Experiment to Search for Parity-Conserving Time Reversal Invariance Using Epithermal Neutrons from the Spallation Neutron Source
Abstract
We describe an experiment to search for parity-conserving, time reversal invariance in the neutron-nucleus cross section. This proposed technique will use the deformation effect in nuclear spin aligned 165Ho to identify either p-wave resonances or small d-wave admixtures in predominantly s-wave resonances. If suitable resonances are identified, a test of parity-conserving, time-reversal violation in the neutron-nucleus cross section is possible, offering two or more orders of magnitude improvement in sensitivity over current limits.
