Letter to the Editor: Nichpa
Abstract
Dear Sir
As a founder member of the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) and as its Director at my retirement in 1987, I was personally interested by the Press Release from the Department of Health about the intended establishment of the National Infection Control and Health Protection Agency (NICHPA), into which NRPB is to be absorbed. Major reorganisations always have a mixture of good and bad features with the balance depending on the details of the arrangements. NRPB will gain from the strength of NICHPA, but may suffer from a large, and possibly bureaucratic, management structure. I was reminded of a remark about NRPB that I made at a seminar in September 2000: `The first Chairman and the first Director were both doctors, but they both saw the Board as a multidiscipline body rather than a as medical one'. This view has been maintained for more than 30 years and has helped to make the Board one of the best radiological protection bodies in the world. I hope the constructors of NICHPA are as foresighted. Yours faithfully,- Publication:
