Interpretation of X-ray conversion efficiency in hohlraums on Omega
Abstract
Since 1999, CEA performs experiments on Omega in collaboration with LLNL. One of these sets of experiments (march '01 empty hohlraum shots) is interpreted here. Two different pulse shapes and two beam configurations were used. A halfraum was also tried to show a possible reflection of the inner cone on the gold wall and therefore energy loss. X-ray imaging of the laser entrance hole and backscattering diagnostics on the two external cones gave useful results. For all experiments (with two different pulse shapes), a good agreement between the calculated radiation temperature and the measured one is found. Nevertheless, this campaign did not permit us to conclude about former symmetry experiments that seemed to show energy loss on the inner cone.
