Decay of a 2-qp Isomer in ^254No
Abstract
To learn more about the single particle structures and pair gap energies of heavy nuclei, which are important for the stability of superheavy elements, we have studied the decay properties of a 2-qp isomer in ^254No. The reaction ^208Pb(^48Ca,2n) with 220 MeV, 50-pnA beam from ATLAS was used. ^254No residues were selected by their M/Q ratio at the focal plane of the FMA and implanted into one of the 5 elements of a Si PIN diode box. The γ-rays were detected in 2 clover HPGe and 2 LEPS detectors. Prompt γγ and eγ coincidences, which occurred within 0.6 sec of ^254No implantation, give preliminary indication of the decay of the reported ∼ 0.3s isomer into the ground state rotational band.
