Spin Structure of the Nucleon
Abstract
This report summarizes recent progress in the physics of nucleon spin structure, including results from experiments at DESY, CERN, and SLAC. First, the global analysis of the inclusive spin-structure functions g_{1}^{p(n)}(x) by the SMC collaboration is described. Next, new measurements of the flavour-separated quark polarizations from HERMES are presented, based on the measurement of semi-inclusive spin asymmetries. Finally, novel measurements are presented from HERMES and SMC, of single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, and of the double spin asymmetry in diffractive vector meson production.
