Two Dimensional Simulations of Tremaine's Eccentric Disk Model
Abstract
Tremaine's eccentric disk model remains as a possible explanation of the intriguing nucleus of M31. We continue to explore his model using two-dimensional N-body simulations of a massive, eccentric disk orbiting a mobile black hole. We find a linear increase in the precession rate of the disk with increasing disk mass relative to the black hole. We also estimate the lifetimes for these eccentricities and find a slow rate of decay with a hint that heavier disks decay slightly more rapidly than lighter disks. Moreover, we estimate the circular velocity and velocity dispersion profiles and present these as a function of disk mass.
