Production of Radioactive Ion Beams with an In-Flight Technique
Abstract
Reactions with heavy projectiles incident on gaseous targets of light elements (typically H, D or ^3He) have been used for the efficient production of secondary radioactive beams at the ATLAS accelerator at Argonne National Laboratory. An overview of the various aspects of the technique will be presented. Examples of recent applications will be discussed. In particular, the intensities and characteristics of the achieved radioactive beams will be presented together with possible further improvements of the technique.
