Do γ-ray bursts associate with metal-rich quasars?
Abstract
There is increasing evidence for a cosmological origin of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). A sample consisting of 148 quasars with known metal abundance is searched for association with GRBs. The authors have used two statistical methods, which are angular correlation analysis and intensity analysis, to find the association between GRBs and metal-rich quasars. It is found here that GRBs associate with metal-rich quasars at a 99.9% confidence level. The intrinsic luminosity of GRBs is derived to be 1.0×1050±0.36 erg s-1.
