Using Voice Recognition Software to Analyze Student Interviews
Abstract
In our attempts to determine student conceptions of quantization and the photon, we have made extensive use of interviews. Transcription of these interviews, however, is a slow, arduous task. Our efforts to ease the pains of transcription led us to turn to the available voice recognition software. Two of the questions we asked were: "Is computer technology suitable for this task?" and "What is necessary to achieve the highest degree of accuracy from the voice recognition software?" This talk will give our preliminary analysis of the voice recognition software and suggestions for its use.
