Total Neutron Cross Section Measurements of Tb-159 and Tm-169 from 200 to 400 keV
Abstract
The total cross sections of Tb-159 and Tm-169 for neutrons with energy from 200 keV to 400 keV were measured by a transmission experiment using the time-of-flight technique. Neutrons were generated by bombarding a thick metallic lithium target with a subnanosecond pulsed proton beam from the UMass Lowell Van de Graaff accelerator. As a check on our technique, the total neutron cross sections of elemental carbon and Al-27 were also measured. The results for Tb-159, carbon and Al-27 compare favorably with other experimental data and with the ENDF/B-VI evaluation. Our measurements on Tm-169 provide data in an energy region where little or no previous work has been done.
