Electron impact excitation of ground state Ne atom
Abstract
We shall report results from first order many-body theory (FOMBT) and distorted wave approximation(DWA) calculations for the electron impact excitation of the lowest fourty levels of ground-state neon. The calculations for the differential cross sections (DCS's) were performed at 25, 30, 50, and 100 eV incident electron energies where they can be compared to the experimental results of Register et al. (Phys.Rev.29,1793 (1984)) We have paid special attention to the excitation of the 2p^53p ^1 S0 level where we studied the dependence of the cross section on the wave-function representation of the excited state. We shall also show some comparisions of our results to other theoretical results at selected transitions and energies. This work was supported by the US DOE, and by the Brazilian Agencies FAPESP and CNPq.
