The Silicon Tracker for the CLEO III High Energy Physics Experiment at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring
Abstract
The Cornell Electron Storage Ring is being upgraded to B-factory luminosities to probe the physics that gives rise to CP violation. Concurrently the CLEO detector is also being upgraded to exploit the physics the machine will provide. A major part of the upgrade is the construction of a state of the art four layer, 124,000 channel double sided silicon tracker with 93electronics. The status of the project and the expected performance of the final system are discussed. Emphasis will be placed on novel features of the mechanical design and construction techniques being employed for the assembly of the detector at Purdue University.
