Asymptotic Behavior of the Nucleon Form Factor
Abstract
QCD makes definite predictions for the power law behavior of the Nucleon Form Factor at high momentum transfer. The questions of interest concern the amplitude of this behavior and the rapidity of its onset. On the theoretical side, a particular question concerns the ability of calculations to correctly predict these features. This is examined in the framework of non-relativistic models of the nucleon with forces mediated by gluon exchanges. The expected power law is then expected to be q-8. Using nuclear wave functions obtained in the hyperspherical formalism with the two lower waves, K = 0 and K = 2, it has been shown that this form factor was behaving as q-7. An infinite set of waves is required to get a q-8 behavior. Wave functions issued from solving Faddeev equations have also been used. A q-8 behavior is obtained, but the amplitude of the result depends to some extent on the number of Faddeev amplitudes retained in the calculation.
