Band ``Forking'' in Re Nuclei: Observations and Explanations.
Abstract
The observation of ``forking'' rotational bands in nuclei in the Re region yields interesting insight into their high spin structures. This behavior is consistent with the existence of both decoupled (doubly-decoupled in odd-odd nuclides) and ``identical--character'' bands in the region. Data from Ta, Re, and Ir are considered in terms of general band structures and band populations. Various model calculations, including TRS, CSM, and simpler core--particle couplings, are discussed in presenting a plausible explanation for this phenomena.
