Generation and nonlinear evolution of oblique magnetosonic waves: application to foreshock and comets.
Abstract
In this study, a combination of linear theory and hybrid (fluid electrons, particle ions) simulations are used to address two outstanding issues regarding the formation and stability of steepened magnetosonic waves (shocklets) observed upstream of planetary bow shocks and at Comet Giacobini-Zinner.
