Stability of operation in connection with the ASSM-AXE program - Synthesis of results acquired during the first two years
Abstract
With the definition of the scientific program accompanying the development program for the Ariane-5 MPS P230 (the ASSM, or Aerodynamics of Segmented Solid Motors, program), investigation of the stability of operation is considered as the 'axis' of priority research. This paper presents a synthesis of results acquired by the end of the first two years of the first phase of this research. Three test cases are discussed in detail: (1) validation of lateral injection in steady-state conditions followed by validation of acoustic propagation and unsteady viscous effects; (2) demonstration of the vortex-shedding phenomenon for simplified conditions in 2D; and (3) a test case representative of the real geometry, representing one of the 1/15-scale configurations.
