Variable time delay of microwave signals using high dispersion fibre
Abstract
The study demonstrates a programmable time delay of 0-5 ns for a 3 GHz signal employing a tunable semiconductor diode laser and 1 km of a new high-dispersion fiber. The novel HD fiber will yield over 5 ns of programmable delay for 50-nm tunable laser sources. This fiber-based method of true time delay can be made compact and lightweight, offering great advantages over present time delay methods. Because it is fiber-based and uses direct detection, this system is resistant to vibration effects.
