The screw dynamo in real flows
Abstract
Results of the numerical solution of the problem of magnetic field generation in swirling jets with different velocity profiles satisfying the Navier-Stokes equation are discussed. The field generation threshold and eigensolution parameters are determined for steady state flow in a pipe and for turbulent swirling jets issuing from a nozzle. For all the flows investigated, the characteristic values of the threshold magnetic Reynolds number are significantly higher than for stepped velocity profiles (i.e., solid state flow).
