Comparison of lidar and radiosonde techniques for measuring wind velocity and direction
Abstract
A comparative analysis of data on wind velocity and direction measured simultaneously in the lower atmosphere by the Meteor-RKZ three-path lidar and aerological system is presented. The lidar wind measurements are based on a correlation and spectral method for measuring wind velocity from the transfer of aerosol fields between three sounding paths. The comparison showed satisfactory agreement between the methods within the limits of 2.4 m/s with respect to wind velocity and 32 deg with respect to direction in rms values. Measures to improve the lidar facility's characteristics are suggested.
