Computing the performance of digital satellite links on a system-wide basis
Abstract
The techniques and software models used by Intelsat to compute the performance of digital carriers, and other carrier types, in a frequency reuse satellite system are described. These include the clear-weather analysis of transmission impairments and the optimization of up-link carrier power levels to minimize transmission impairments, as well as the analysis of transmission impairments under rain-degraded conditions. This paper describes the current version of the Satellite Transmission Impairments Program (STRIP6), a computer program that performs clear-weather computations. Companion programs used with STRIP6 are also identified, and the programs that compute performance under rain-degraded conditions are briefly summarized.
