The discharge-energy balance in the nitrogen-containing active medium of an electroionization CO laser
Abstract
The dynamics of the discharge balance in a CO-N2 mixture is studied with allowance for the interaction between the electron distributions over various energies and the molecular populations over different vibrational levels. The decisive role of this interaction in the substantial energy redistribution of the pump energy between vibrational levels of CO and N2 in favor of the N2 molecules is shown. The stabilizing effect of nitrogen on the thermal conditions of the CO laser active medium is revealed and the region with an optimal CO:N2 ratio is determined.
