High power SSPA for satellite broadcasting system
Abstract
Consideration is given to the use of a 14 GHz-band high-power SSPA in a transportable earth station in satellite broadcasting systems. The SSPA includes four 8-way and one 4-way power combiners to combine the output power of 32 GaAs FET amplifier units. The combiners were tested with a 150-W class SSPA. The tests demonstrated the SSPA operation at 151-W output and a bandwidth of 300 MHz. It is suggested that this SSPA is smaller and lighter than conventional amplifiers, including traveling-wave tubes.
