Characteristics of the mechanism responsible for the formation of optical inhomogeneities in CO lasers
Abstract
The mechanism of thermal nonlinearity of the active medium of CO lasers is investigated theoretically, and it is shown that the thermal nonlinearity is largely due to the VV-exchange of anharmonic CO molecules. The dynamics of nonlinear heat release is determined, and the angular aberration of light beams due to nonlinear optical inhomogeneities is estimated. The results obtained are then compared with the corresponding data for CO2 lasers.
