Observation of ferro-helimagnetic phase coexistence in Tb crystals
Abstract
We observed, using neutron diffraction topography on very pure Tb crystals 1) macroscopic ferromagnetic islands (∼ 10 -3 mm 3), probably associated with magnetic precipitates, which remain in the helimagnetic phase and 2) the helimagnetic-ferro-magnetic phase coexistence under a field applied in the basal plane. The experimental results can be accounted for by invoking magnetostatic arguments.
