Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) product simulation
Abstract
Existing SAR product simulator applicability to advanced land missions was assessed. It is found that none of them are appropriate. The requested input files characterizing the topography of an area of interest are not available to the quality necessary for realistic simulations. As part of the simulation process itself, the modeling of image speckle and image texture and the coherent SAR data hologram need more research. The development of a coherent radar cross section data base, including coordinated monostatic and bistatic calibrated measurements; development of algorithms for modeling image speckle and image texture, and verification by analysis of existing SAR data; and harmonization of the development of digital terrain models are recommended.
