Optimization techniques in satellite transmission design
Abstract
A technique for the use of numerical optimization methods in satellite transmission system design is presented. This allows system designers to concentrate on the engineering aspects of the design process, leaving many of the low-level decisions to the computer. The implementation described, which uses Powell's optimization algorithm and features of the UNIX operating system, can be used with any design program (e.g., transmission simulators). Possibilities and limitations of the method, and examples of its application are outlined.
