Conditions of the breakdown of equilibrium and quasi-stationarity in an expanding recombining plasma
Abstract
General conditions for the breakdown of equilibrium and quasi-stationarity in a nonstationary process are obtained. These conditions are then used to obtain criteria for the breakdown of equilibrium ionization, equilibrium excitation, and thermal equilibrium during the stationary dispersion of a low-temperature plasma. Conditions for the quasi-stationary population of the excited states in a recombining plasma are also considered. The criteria obtained are compared with numerical calculations and with data available in the literature.
