An investigation of the micro-variations of highly luminous OBA type stars. II.
Abstract
In the present investigation of microvariations in six high luminosity O-type and two B-type stars, temperatures, gravities, and reddenings are determined with the aid of theoretical colors. At least six stars of this sample exhibit a periodic or quasi-periodic oscillation in the light curve, together with a second type of nonperiodic variation that is superimposed on the mean light and color curves. Large convective elements in these atmospheres having varying physical conditions are suggested as an at least partial explanation. Observations of the hottest stars suggest that even their photospheres are unstable against convection or that they pulsate, contrary to theoretical models.
