Fluid physics module: Improved optical design feasibility study
Abstract
An optical bench was designed and the optical system performances were experimentally evaluated. Different configurations of the optical bench are analyzed and a detailed description of the chosen solution is presented. This is an L shape spatial structure composed of 8 rails 500 mm long which allow vertical or horizontal rotation axis of the rotating table in the test chamber. Tests were performed in the meridian plane and in the background plane using different optical configurations and different light sources. The possibility of operating with Xenon lamps in pulse mode is demonstrated. Optical system performance is improved by the correction of spherical and chromatic aberrations of the condensing system and by optimizing dimensions and position of optical elements. Performance data of the initial and improved system with halogen or Xenon lamp solutions are compared.
