Characteristics of the radio noise receiving equipment
Abstract
Design features and capabilities of the four HF receivers installed on the Japanese Ionosphere Sounding Satellite (ISS-b), launched in 1978, are described. The receivers are set at 2.5, 5, 10, and 25 MHz, and are directly connected to amplifiers to avoid nonlinear distortion. Each receiver is equipped with a monolithic crystal filter in order to realize a 1 kHz bandwidth with a dynamic range of 60 dB, sufficient for characterizing lightning discharge emissions.
